A public meeting to discuss the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s Southern Beltway construction project was held May 2, 2018, at the South Fayette/Cuddy Volunteer Fire Department in South Fayette.
Contractor Trumbull Corporation is working on the section of the highway that is located in South Fayette Township between Route 50 and Interstate 79. The project will started in May 2018 and will occur until approximately May 2020. Local roads affected by closures and detours include Parks Road, Hickory Grade Road, Bowman Road and Coal Pit Run Road.
A portion of Hickory Grade Road will be closed until Nov. 2019, with traffic detoured using Parks Road, Route 50 and Cecil-Henderson Road.
Coal Pit Run Road will be permanently closed, and the pavement will be removed where the road intersects with Bowman Road and Karmann Road.
Heavy equipment will be in operation on and around Parks Road, Hickory Grade Road, Route 50 and Bowman Road.
Utility activities will occur along Cecil-Sturgeon Road, Hickory Grade Road and other areas.
Detours and road closures are in effect until around May 2020 on portions of Hickory Grade Road, Bowman Road and Coal Pit Run Road to allow for construction activities, and detours will be set up.
