Adults age 60 or older who meet certain income guidelines may register to receive a free box of healthy, nonperishable foods once per month through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, or Senior Food Box Program.
Distribution is held at the South Fayette Township Building, 515 Millers Run Road 15064.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be age 60 or older
- Have a gross income (income BEFORE Medicare, etc. deductions) that falls under the limits listed in the chart:
What You Get
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) box includes bottles of 100% juice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and stews, milk, cereal, peanut butter, and more. Each box also comes with two pounds of fresh American cheese.
Products are provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and distributed through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The items are chosen to focus on seniors’ nutritional needs: high fiber, high protein, high calcium, low salt and low sugar.
How to Apply
Call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 412-221-8700 during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding holidays). You do NOT need to be a resident of South Fayette Township.
You must supply the following information:
- I.D. (Driver's License, Birth Certificate or Passport)
- Proof of Income (Social Security, Disability, Pension, Unemployment, Underemployment)
- The person(s) planning to pick up the food (Applicant/Caretaker/Proxy)
Applicants must be approved and registered before they can begin receiving food boxes.
When Can Boxes Be Picked Up?
Boxes may be picked up only during the designated hours. Early or late pickups are not possible. Distributions that fall on a holiday will be rescheduled. No deliveries are available.
What If I Can't Pick Up My Box?
Applicants may appoint a caretaker or proxy.
A caretaker may appear in person to register the food box recipient. Upon signup, the caretaker must present the applicant's ID and proof of income. In the future, the caretaker may sign for and pick up the food box, and also can fill out annual certification paperwork on behalf of the recipient.
A registered proxy can pick up boxes for the recipient. The recipient still must appear in person for the annual certification paperwork.
